How To Draw Blooper From Mario
Hello everyone, today I'm sharing how to make 8-bit pixel Blooper from the NES version of Super Mario Bros. I created this project on a whim when I noticed I had a scrap piece of 1/2″ plywood sitting on my garage floor. I followed the same technique I used to create 8-bit pixel Link from the original The Legend of Zelda game.

How to make 8-bit pixel Blooper in 5 easy steps
- Draw 1.5″ grid lines
- Route along the grid lines
- Cut out Blooper's silhouette
- Prep Pixel Blooper for painting
- Paint Pixel Blooper
Step 1: Draw 1.5″ grid lines
Use a ruler to mark grid lines space 1.5″ apart.
Step 2: Route along the grid lines
Install a v-groove router bit and route along the grid lines. Use a clamp edge guide to ensure straight lines.
Step 3: Cut out Blooper's silhouette
Cut out the Blooper's shape with a jigsaw (or use a bandsaw).
Step 4: Prep Pixel Blooper for painting
Sand between the grooves and sand the surface of Blooper. I used scrap piece of wood to support the sandpaper as I sanded between the grooves.
Step 5: Paint Pixel Blooper
Paint each pixel on Blooper. Painting between the grooves is a little tricky. Use painters tape to maintain clean lines. I was impatient and used paint brushes for painting miniatures to paint in the crevices.
If necessary, apply multiple layers of paint. Once the paint is dried, protect the finish with a clear coat.
DIY 8-Bit Pixel Blooper
I am really happy with how pixel Blooper turned out.
